Curriculum and Instruction

Marissa Chappell is a doctoral student in Curriculum and Instruction, Reading Education and holds a master’s in Speech-Language Pathology. With community connections and a commitment to ecologically valid fieldwork, she is interested in how deaf individuals process literacy across ASL and English modalities. Marissa hopes to explore literacy skills through the lens of universal cognitive mechanisms independent of any specific language or sensory channel. Through TRANSCEND’s team science framework, she aims to inform educational approaches that recognize the inherent neurodiversity and unique neurobiological profiles of deaf learners.
